The Quietus have premiered the new video by Joe Volk. The track ‘Call to Sun’ is from the Boris/Joe Volk split album out this week on Invada.
The video was directed by Bristol filmmaker, Gary Thomas and shot in the city’s Easton and Stokes Croft areas, and stars Volk’s own niece and nephew. The concept was to protray the juxtaposition of the innocence of the chilren against the inner city scenes.
Joe was the original singer in Gonga and Crippled Black Phoenix and released his debut solo album on Invada. His two songs on this album, ‘Call to Sun’ and ‘Finland’, are stories in technically sublime acoustics, strings and vocals, but as you would expect from an Invada artist all is not as it seems. His use of silence and hypnotic rhythms mark this out as something entirely different.
