Fullerton, CA garage rockers Audacity released their newest album Hyper Vessels in April on Suicide Squeeze, and they’ve since finished a video for its song “Dirty Boy.” The song splices dimly lit footage of the band playing live in Santa Ana with a “video scavenger hunt” of the imagery from Hyper Vessels‘ cover art.
Here’s what the director (Isaac Thotz) had to say about the video: “The overall concept was to do a video scavenger hunt of the imagery from Hyper Vessels’ cover art, which the band said represented the themes of the record. It’s a spastic video collage of that imagery spliced with live footage of Audacity in Santa Ana. There are all sorts of easter eggs in the video leading to song lyrics, musical influences, etc. In terms of the look, the deep saturated tones and analog distortions come from shooting onto cassette rather than digitally. The album recording was performed live and captured on analog tape and this video was meant to meet that mood. The energy is high with Audacity, especially with this song, but there’s always a mellow vibe…dirty and hazy…like So Cal! So that’s what we wanted.”
Hyper Vessels, produced by longtime friend and tourmate, Ty Segall is out now on Suicide Squeeze Records.
