The Lovely Eggs unveil new video ‘Magic Onion’

The oddball D.I.Y punk rock pair, The Lovely Eggs, have been selling out venues across the country without the help of management, booking agent or record label support. And true to form they return with their ninth self-produced and self-recorded 7” single ‘Magic Onion’, a raucous punked up psyche trip of nonsensical perfection.Released on the Cardiff-based D.I.Y. Flower of Phong label, in collaboration with artist and video director Casey Raymond (who they met in a dentist’s waiting room), the band made limited edition 7” release on green onion splatter vinyl is accompanied by a Riso printed handmade book by Casey of psychedelic/ nightmarish proportions that’s guaranteed to peel back yer mind and bring tears to your eyes.  B side to the single sees the Eggs pair up with Sweet Baboo, who accompanies them in an acoustic duet of the song which shows a softer side, but one which is still decidedly pickled.

“‘Magic Onion’ just sprung out of nowhere. It kept going round and round in our heads so we thought we had to release it. Casey had been on about us releasing something on his label Flower of Phong for a while so when Magic Onion sprouted we thought it would be a good one to do.  It’s a bit like a big fuck off Sargasso eel. We had to let it go free in its own hideous way. And now it’s out there, swimming back home to the baboon sanctuary.”

The Lovely Eggs have been relative outsiders to the music industry since 2006 with their unrelenting touring, single and album releases. But their “fuck it” attitude and DIY punk rock spirit has won the hearts of many fans, gaining them an increasingly loyal live following as well as huge support from DJs at BBC 6 Music, Radio One and XFM where they have recorded sessions for all three stations.This Is Our Nowhere (recorded at a disused factory in their home town of Lancaster) cements their reputation as one of the most exciting, innovative and genuine bands on the Great British Underground scene.  With songs firmly set in the hum drum of everyday life, The Lovely Eggs turn normality on its head, squeezing it through their peculiar surreal mincing machine and blending it with fuzzed out guitar and crashing drums.  For Holly and David being in a band is a way of life. And they approach it in a unique way laughing in the face of life’s absurdities. They are a rallying point for anyone that sees life for what it is.  A mess.
