“A Shut-In’s Prayer finally brings to mind the eerie secular hymns of Springsteen’sNebraska, but written for the ones with their cars up on concrete blocks, who never made it past the city limits.” Mojo
Owen Ashworth is returning to the UK for the first time since 2010, when he officially retired his long-running Casiotone for the Painfully Alone indie/electronic pop project. The debut of his new musical project, Advance Base, A Shut-In’s Prayer (onTomlab/Orindal), was #19 on MOJO Magazine’s Best Albums of 2012 list. A Shut-In’s Prayer presented a decidedly more organic and mature outlet for Owen‘s empathetic, nostalgic songwriting, loaded with gorgeous pianos, electric pianos, autoharp, & harmony vocals.
For his first shows in the UK as Advance Base, Owen is performing solo, accompanying himself of electric piano & sampler. He will perform songs from A Shut-In’s Prayer, The World Is In A Bad Fix Everywhere EP (his tribute to gospel & outsider music pioneerWashington Phillips, out June 25 on Orindal Records), as well previewing brand new songs from a forthcoming Advance Base album. This will be his only UK tour of 2013.
